Last weekend The Blue Virgin won two awards at the International Short Film Festival Middelburg. The film received the audience award for best Dutch short film and Pierre Bokma got the prize for best Dutch actor. Director Tim Klok, scriptwriter Joeri Pruys and actress Sytske van der Ster were at hand to receive the awards. The competition of the first edition of the International Short Film Festival included 43 films, selected from nearly 500 entries.
At the festival, the film stood out for its scale, ambition and emotional ending, which the audience rewarded with the award for best Dutch short film. In his role as Thomas, Pierre Bokma impressed the jury, consisting of Peter Alderliesten (editor), Roos Jeroense (producer) and Bülent Ostürk (director), and was awarded the jury award for best Dutch actor.
The film, produced entirely independently by VandePunt Film Productions, has also been selected for the Midwest Action Fest in the United States, to be held on April 19 and 20. In addition, the film itself is brought to the public via a tour of film houses and theaters through a program with behind-the-scenes material and a follow-up discussion.
